Dave's Straw Hat Inn is one of Boracay's newest resorts, even though we prefer to refer to ourselves as an Inn as a way to reflect our small size, attention to your comforts and needs and our family atmosphere. With that said, we offer those amenities that most big Boracay resorts offer without the high prices. We provide inexpensive Boracay accommodations, with absolutely no skimping on quality. Our guests have the choice of three types of rooms, which may include air-conditioning, refrigerator and cable television. All rooms are furnished with phones, and have hot and cold water and generator back up.

Kick back on our patio, enjoy a Boracay fresh fruit shake or a local menu item. To stay in touch, even though we think you may prefer to just rest and relax during your escape, we also offer Boracay internet access. For your convenience, our staff can converse in English and Japanese.

Puka Beach

Puka Beach - A quiet stretch of white sand along the northern tip of the island, Puka Beach is an image of what most people expect on a tropical island: white sand, azure water, and relatively empty. This is where locals gather the small puka shells for some of the jewelry that is sold on the island so expect the sand to be more coarse than on White Beach. The water tends to be a little rougher on this side of the island but it is much quieter. Similarly, there are fewer services -- at last count there was one restaurant but you likely won't have a problem getting a cold drink or an ice cream as there are a few vendors that patrol the beach. The main road in Boracay terminates at Puka Beach therefore you'll be able to hire a tricycle to get there in less than 10-15 minutes from central White Beach. Make sure you arrange a pickup if it is a quiet day and no tricycles are hanging around the beach. Most people experience Puka as one of their sailboat or banca stops during a day trip. This is a good spot for a picnic, but be sure to bring your trash home with you.

Two of our beach houses are given very Filipino names, Mactan House and Anito House. The other one is called Slate House. Built using indigenous and imported construction material, they have an architecture that is both modern and tropical, which blends well with the local scenery.

The carefully designed rooms were appointed different themes. Each room comes with a set of designer furniture, high-end European bathroom fixtures and lights, and a wide collection of artworks from local and international artists, making each room unique and an exciting place to stay in. Manila-based One Place Design Group was hired to carefully plan and supervise the whole project.

    Built for the owner of Boracay Beach Houses, Anito House exemplifies modern luxury in the heart of a tropical paradise. Just 10 meters away from the back of Mactan House, it occupies 150 sqm of living space and has a roof deck that is 60 sqm large. The rooms on the second and third floor are available for guests. They can be accessed via a staircase on the side of Mactan House. The room on the second floor is a loft-type apartment with a king size bed (180cm x 210cm), a living area with two sofa beds (90cm x 200cm), a dining table that can accommodate 12 guests, and a bathroom. The initial six storey home was built in just six months and in complete secrecy. Designed to complement the natural slope of the island’s unique rises, the owner explained to his children that business called for more frequent out of town meetings and trips. In reality, he was busy traveling back and forth to this seven kilometer stretch of white and rich blue skies to oversee the fever pitch creation of his six storey surprise.

Together with the devoted supervision of Puerta Rican New Yorker Irma Hernandez who relocated to Boracay during the vacation home’s construction, the 7 bedroom rose colored beach house was finished just in time. Christmas was to come that year with a delightful surprise that would never be forgotten. Since then, the family decided to open Punta Rosa’s doors to share their home with close friends and family as a means to help maintain year round operation costs. Hernandez has most graciously agreed to stay on with Punta Rosa to manage the family beach home now as a boutique hotel.

Just late last year, Hernandez and the owner again tapped their mutual love for architecture and interior design to create a second five bedroom wing of Punta Rosa right next to the original building. This time, with a well organized know- how and networking structure on the island, nothing was held back in creating a unique look to each room.

Each room has been well thought out with exotic yet subtle design influences from all over the world. Admittedly, many hours were forgotten deciding on just what would make each individual room of Punta Rosa look just right. For this very reason, practically every bit of furniture and accessory in Punta Rosa was custom made to suit the detailed design preferences desired.

Handsome generous abaca rugs were commissioned from nearby Kalibo to be hand woven to specific dimensions for each room. Bed platforms were refinished and fashioned from age old molave slabs. The steps of the resort themselves are of conversation piece as they were recycled from a former railroad track. Even the lazily laid out “bahay kubo” that relaxes calmly on Punta Rosa’s shared roofdeck – was specially made to suit the needs of the would be vacationer who would like to while away the hours overlooking the sea.

Each room boasts of individual charm, be it a balcony with a breathtaking view of the shore, a spacious bathroom with a raindance shower, or ingeniously designed lighting fixtures and accessories fashioned from bamboo or other often overlooked natural treasures.
